FWCA membership is growing, but we need more

There are 10s of thousands of regional Australians affected by eco-poltiical opposition to forestry. Together we make a loud voice.
Since Heyfield Timber Festival organiser and timber community identity Felicia Stevenson joined our ranks as National Membership Manager in May, our membership has more than doubled.
We are now at nearly 900, but it is not enough and Felicia made an impassioned plea on her Facebook page recently for more people to get behind us.
There are 10s of thousands of people who live in our timber towns which survive because of a local sawmill or other timber related industry. Everyone of them that we speak to is confused and angry, but muttering under your breath or commenting on a Facebook post won’t change anything.
If we say nothing, the opponents to forestry will continue to influence government which will steamroll right over us. We’re seeing it already with log shortages forcing mill closures and people forced out onto the dole queue.
If we come together in one loud voice, the Government must take notice. There is an election coming and we can make a difference.
When we meet with decision makers, we want to show that we represent everyone who will suffer because of bad decisions around forestry.
If you are on our social media platforms because you agree with and support our views, but have not signed up, what’s stopping you? We have 1700 followers on our Facebook page – nearly double our membership.
If you have joined up but your husband or wife, your timber town neighbours, your teammates in your sporting club have not, let them know who we are and how important it is to fight for our future.
At it’s peak, the last association which represented the grassroots had 28,000 members. That organisation made a difference. It was heard. It influenced government policy.
Let’s be heard again.
